The Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Festival 2014 recently took place at The Curragh Racecourse. It was a fantastic weekend with great weather, great atmosphere and lots to see and do.
Our Pictureboots team was out in force to capture this event and all it had to offer!
I guess you kind of think when your going to the races, all your going to be concerned with is horses, betting, and well more horses.
However, we quickly released it was about that and so much more!! There was a real buzz when you entered The Derby Food Paddock which included some of County Kildare’s top restaurants, Fallons of Kilcullen were raising the temperatures with their pig on a spit.
If you didn’t have enough to eat from that, or if like us you like to try a little bit of everything, the Silken Thomas crew where serving up a mouth watering beef (Paddy Byrnes craft butcher) on ciabatta bread.
Thankfully we’ve discovered Tom Creane’s to help wash down the food, a nice ice cold Irish craft beer from the Dingle Brewing Company.
Sunday was a little different as they had the Derby Festival Family Fun Day, in which the stage in the food paddock played host to allsorts of kid’s entertainment. Everything from fire spitting mad men to the very entertaining Jeca the clown.
This festival was more than just a horse racing festival; this was a weekend festival of fun for all.
If this year was anything to go by, next years 150th running of the Irish Derby will be something to look forward to!!!
